Mandated Service Instructions and Options

Requirements

  • You may select a service opportunity that is not on this list; however, you must have the approval of your hearing officer or sanctioning body prior to commencing your volunteer work. Bear in mind that it must be an educational, charitable, or not-for-profit agency. Hours completed at an agency not on this list without the prior approval of OSCR will not be accepted.
  • Fraternity/Sorority members may not count time spent on organizational philanthropy projects toward the completion of service hours.

Verification

  • You must ensure that all of your service hours are documented. Verification of service hours may come in the form of a letter from the agency with the name and contact information of the person who supervised your work. You may also use the Log Sheet on the OSCR website.

Helpful Hints

  • Do not wait until the last minute to arrange your volunteer activities. All of these agencies are very busy and it may take them a few days to return your call.
  • Select several opportunities that sound interesting to you in case one does not work out.
  • Be patient and respectfully persistent with the agencies.
  • Be flexible with your time. These agencies are welcoming you into their spaces – be respectful and mindful of that.
  • Be prepared for the possibility that you will have to complete an application, orientation, and/or training, especially if you choose to work with children. This process could take anywhere from two to four weeks.

* NOTE: Service hours completed at Loving Action SHARE food program in Rantoul, Illinois, will not be accepted by OSCR.
